Good Collaboration Yields Fruit
Parents of school-going children receive free answers to all their questions regarding education
On the 15th of April 2004, the Dutch Minister of Education, Minister Maria van der Hoeven, officially opened 5010, a free information service for parents on all aspects concerning education. Consequently, the parents of about 2,5 million school-going students in The Netherlands are able to quickly find answers to all their questions regarding primary and secondary school education at one centralized address.
Parents can access the information service via:

a free telephone number 0800-5010 (the information line is open on school days between 10.00 and 15.00 hours); and

A clearly structured, accessible website: http://www.50tien.nl, providing online advise to parents of school-going children. The site includes a database of frequently asked questions (FAQ's), documents and brochures (full-text and bibliographic); news; and the possibility to ask questions and receive answers per e-mail.
Parsec Infotech, in collaboration with TECTRA, had the honour of designing and developing the custom made content management system for 5010's web application. For this purpose, use was made of E-Tectra's engine (Web Content System) which was customized to the clients requirements. There are two modules, one for access by staff members for data input (FAQ's), document creation and content review; and the other for the general public. Both applications are database driven and make use of dynamic web pages/templates. The applications are developed using E-Tectra engine so as to provide an indispensable tool for supporting, as well as updating the dynamic information system. Whether changes are made by a single person or by a team, the system's structure covers both, putting emphasis on "common sense" and simple procedures, so as to minimize input errors from users.
5010 is an initiative of the Dutch national parent association's for school-going children, namely, LOBO, NKO, OUDERS & COO en VOO, in cooperation with Balans, CG-Raad, FvO and other Dutch organizations. Questions are answered from the parent's position and in the best interest of parents and children.
