iLinc Version 7.7 - Release May 2005

Meeting Via the Web Easier

New Release Focuses on Easy Scheduling, Performance, and Reliability

Leersum, May 17, 2005: Parsec Infotech is pleased to announce the release of the next version of the iLinc Web conferencing software. This latest version delivers improvements in three key areas: scheduling and launching of meetings, system performance, and overall reliability.

According to a recent report entitled “Web Metrics” by industry analyst Wainhouse Research released earlier this year, Web conferencing users identify easy-to-use scheduling and starting of meetings, system performance, and overall reliability among the most important features in selecting a Web conferencing provider. These survey participants rated these features as even more important than price. The new version of iLinc Web conferencing software improves on an already solid foundation in these areas, building on ten years of incorporating best practices into the product.

Quick and Easy to Schedule and to Start Web Meeting Sessions

To simplify scheduling of meetings from inside of the iLinc system, the Company has introduced a new Session Scheduling Wizard to quickly create iLinc meetings, classes, conferences, and support rooms. iLinc now also generates HTML email notifications from the iLinc scheduling system, which can be easily customized with images, links, different fonts and styles without leaving the scheduling page. iLinc provides the ability to have up to six different automated email notifications for session attendees including invitation, reminder, and cancellation notices that are automatically generated and sent from the software. iLinc already makes starting Web meetings as simple as one click by offering integration with Microsoft Outlook™. Users can click an iLinc meeting button from Outlook™ and schedule meetings just as they would with any standard Outlook meeting. Invitees receive a calendar announcement with the link to the online meeting with a customizable message. Users can easily create and manage iLinc meetings without ever leaving Outlook. The iLinc software also includes a Quick Invite functionality in which users can click one button, type in an email address, and instantly invite a participant to an online meeting.

Notably, the iLinc software can also be adapted to enable scheduling and starting iLinc meetings from many other front-end authentication, administration, and management systems through iLinc’s free and fully supported API. This allows organizations to easily integrate with existing systems.

Ability to Adjust Settings for Users and Administrators to Increase Performance

The iLinc software empowers users and administrators with the ability to control more of their software performance settings system-wide or by individual meetings. This enables users to optimize the performance of the software in any situation. The Speed Limit setting allows users to control the amount of data they send over their networks when sharing applications. Unlike other conferencing products where users can unknowingly flood a network with data, iLinc provides several levels of bandwidth control. At the system level, an IT administrator can set a cap on the amount of bandwidth that iLinc will use. Similar options are available when initially scheduling a meeting from within the meeting itself. Meeting leaders can increase or decrease bandwidth usage to adjust for meeting participants connecting through dial-up modems, or across high-speed networks.

iLinc believes that its software now delivers the highest quality recordings in the industry. The iLinc Web session recorder enables users to easily record any online meeting session on-the-fly, and then edit the recordings to remove any part of the session or merge recordings together. The software now delivers additional options for recordings: Standard and Enhanced. The standard option produces recordings that are highly compressed, enabling users to store significant amounts of recorded session data within a few megabytes for archiving info or for mass distribution of information. The enhanced option produces recordings with higher capture rates (for smoother motion), full color (16-bit), and high quality audio – directly mimicking the live experience. Recordings can now also be captured as a Windows media file (WMV). Unlike many other providers, iLinc offers the ability to record sessions and unlimited viewing of those sessions for no additional cost to customers.

Functionality that drives performance is not new to the software. For more than two years, iLinc has also offered the AppStatus feature, which allows a Web meeting leader to control multiple windows on the desktop of all attendees. When the leader minimizes an application and brings another into focus, the same action happens automatically for everyone in the session. This ensures that all attendees stay synchronized. The leader can show a PowerPoint™, then quickly turn everyone's attention toward a whiteboard, then back to the PowerPoint without having to close or re-launch any applications.

Overall Reliability

As part of the new release, iLinc is introducing enhanced tolerance for network or Internet interruptions. iLinc sessions now won’t be interrupted if a participant experiences a brief interruption to their network or Internet connectivity. If the iLinc client and server are unable to communicate for brief periods of time, data will store in a buffer while all current data remains on the screen. Once the connection is restored, the client and server send all of the buffered data and immediately catch up. The result is better user experiences even when the user’s Internet connectivity is intermittently disrupted.

“Our goal is to produce easy-to-use, yet powerful software that will increase the effectiveness of any type of business collaboration,” commented Adam Bell, vice president of technical operations for iLinc Communications. “These new improvements to our software simplify user experience while advancing functionality to ensure our customers’ success.”

This new version is now generally available worldwide. Interested parties can find out more about the iLinc software features or receive a trial on Parsec Infotech's Web site at www.parsecinfo.nl.
