iLinc Partners with the John C. Ford Program and the United Nations to deliver education worldwide (LearnLinc™ Software to Be Used to Educate Economically Disadvantaged)

Working in conjunction with the John C. Ford Program (JCFP), the United Nations and its affiliate, the Global Education Motivators, EDT Learning will make its virtual classroom software, LearnLinc, available to educate economically disadvantaged children and adults worldwide. Phase III of the Project was launched online through LearnLinc to an international audience that included delegates in session at the United Nations in New York City on February 18, 2003.

In 2000-2001, The JCFP was selected by the US Department of Commerce TOP program and WK Kellogg Foundation to develop and implement the Project, with JCFP’s new methodology for using multimedia technology to enhance innovative after-school educational programs into an international education model. The Project, which was developed by The JCFP for youth (K - 12th grades) and adults in economically disadvantaged communities, has proven to be extremely successful in the Dallas, Texas area, training more than 1,500 youths and adults on after-school science, math, and business technology programs with a 90% graduation rate during its three-year pilot. Effective February 18, 2003, Phase III will expand the Project worldwide through International Education HUBs.

In a partnership with The JCFP and United Nations affiliates, EDT Learning will provide its virtual classroom software - LearnLinc, which will be used in Phase III of the Project to develop new, live, Web-based science, math, and technology programs via the Internet for children and adults across the United States and in developing countries. EDT has joined a handful of other world-class organizations chosen to participate in this Project including Space Center Houston, the Math Forum @ Drexel University, EDS, and Microsoft Corporation.

"LearnLinc will enable us to extend our education programs to a much larger audience via the Internet in a live, Web-based training format," commented Jacqueline Varma, chief executive officer of The John C. Ford Program, Inc. "LearnLinc is a much more robust training tool than traditional Web conferencing applications, allowing us to continue to create innovative programs within the parameters of a solid and sound instructional technology."
